OVERVIEW
About this business
Cooper Design Space occupies the historic Cooper Building in Downtown Los Angeles’ Fashion District, at Ninth and Los Angeles Streets. Today it houses fashion showrooms, design studios, creative offices, and Cooper Studios, an 11th-floor venue that explicitly advertises filming and photoshoots.
FILMING AND COMMERCIAL-PRODUCTION USE
Cooper Studios advertises approximately 19,000 square feet, natural light, Downtown Los Angeles views, passenger and freight elevator access, and on-site parking. The official venue lists filming, photoshoots, fashion shows, trade shows and events among potential uses. This is a filmable creative/event location, not a confirmed purpose-built soundstage. Production companies must confirm current rental availability, permission to film, permit requirements, insurance, access/load-in and technical restrictions directly with the property.
GARMENT DISTRICT HISTORY
The Cooper Building was constructed in 1924 for the Milton G. Cooper Dry Goods Company and was associated with garment manufacturing and the wholesale clothing trade. In 1928 Milton G. Cooper opened a department store there, after a long history in wholesale apparel. In the 1970s, Stanley and Anita Hirsh transformed the building into an outlet mall. Fashion and wholesale showrooms remained central to its identity over subsequent decades. This heritage connects the property to Los Angeles’ clothing manufacturing, costume and wardrobe supply ecosystem; it does not establish that current tenants provide production wardrobe services.
