OVERVIEW
About this business
The Bradbury Building is an 1893 architectural landmark and active commercial office building in Downtown Los Angeles. Its historic central atrium features a glass skylight, ornamental iron balconies and stairs, marble detailing and cage-style elevators. The property is within Los Angeles’ Thirty-Mile Studio Zone and is offered for filming and photography by advance arrangement.
Historic film and television location
The building’s management identifies major productions including Blade Runner (1982), (500) Days of Summer (2009), The Artist (2011), Bosch and Pushing Daisies. Its architecture provides period, noir, science-fiction and urban-production looks, but it is not a purpose-built soundstage.
Production bookings and access
The venue’s official filming page says it accepts long-term film bookings six or more months in advance. Commercial filming and photoshoots require management approval and any applicable FilmLA permit; visitors’ access to the public atrium does not authorize a production shoot or use of upper levels. Confirm rates, insurance, crew limits, rigging, load-in, power, equipment placement, elevator use and available areas with the property manager. Street or garage parking for crew is not included automatically.
Historic significance
Commissioned by Lewis Bradbury and opened in 1893, the building is a designated National Historic Landmark. Historical accounts identify Sumner Hunt’s initial design and George Wyman’s oversight of construction; the extent of Wyman’s design contribution remains debated. Its interior and filmmaking heritage make it an important Los Angeles Historic Core location.
