The Writers Guild of America West (WGAW), headquartered in Los Angeles, California is located across the street from The Original Farmers Market, it is a US labor union and Guild representing film and television writers. The Writers Guild of America, also has an East Coast Chapter: The Writers Guild of America East (WGAe), headquartered in New York, New York. The Guild operates to facilitate screenplay registrations for its members as well as non-members for motion pictures and teleplays, which can provide as a legal reference to literary works from Screenwriters.
This is to serve as additional legal evidence and support which can also be provided by the US copyright office. Membership into the Writer’s Guild is contingent upon a Screenwriter having a published work, i.e. your script has been Produced into a motion picture, documentary, or television program. The Writers Guild of America also hosts the Writers Guild Awards held annually, and they publish the “Written By” physical and digital publication. The Writers Guild of America West features the Writers Guild Foundation Shavelson-Webb Library, which has tons of resources for writers, as well as many screenplays that can be read only on site.
